About This Tool

SWOT Analysis Maker is a free, browser-based tool for building structured strategic analysis matrices. It covers all four SWOT quadrants — Strengths (internal advantages), Weaknesses (internal disadvantages), Opportunities (external positives), and Threats (external risks).

Each item supports a short text entry, an optional explanatory note, and a priority level (High / Medium / Low) shown as a colour-coded dot. Items are draggable within each quadrant for custom ordering. The analysis auto-saves in your browser with every change — no account required.

Use SWOT analyses for product strategy, business planning, project kick-offs, competitive assessments, career planning, or any decision that benefits from structured thinking about internal capabilities versus external conditions.

How to Use

  • Title your analysis using the title and subtitle fields at the top. These appear in exports.
  • Add items to any quadrant by clicking the "Add …" button at the bottom of each card. Enter the factor text, an optional note, and select a priority level.
  • Edit or delete items by hovering and clicking the pencil or bin icon on the right side of each item.
  • Reorder items within a quadrant by dragging them up or down.
  • Priority dots: 🔴 High, 🟡 Medium, 🟢 Low — visible at a glance without expanding each item.
  • Export: click PNG to download an image, or PDF for a document-ready version. Both capture the full 2×2 grid including your title.
  • Backup: use "JSON" to copy the full analysis as JSON. "Import" to paste it back on any device.

Logic & Background

SWOT was developed in the 1960s–70s at Stanford Research Institute. The 2×2 matrix classifies factors along two axes: internal vs. external origin, and helpful vs. harmful effect. This creates four quadrants that together give a 360° view of a situation.

The key distinction: Strengths and Weaknesses describe what you control (skills, resources, processes, reputation). Opportunities and Threats describe the environment you operate in (market trends, competition, regulations, technology shifts).

Effective SWOT items are specific and actionable — not "good team" but "5-person team with domain expertise in logistics software." Prioritising items (High / Medium / Low) helps focus strategy: cross-reference High-priority Strengths against High-priority Opportunities to find where to invest, or High-priority Weaknesses against High-priority Threats to find where to defend.

State is stored in localStorage via Alpine.js reactive watchers and persists across sessions. Export uses html2canvas at 2× DPR scale for crisp output, fed into jsPDF for PDF generation — both loaded on-demand via dynamic import.
