What is the Number Counter?

The Number Counter is a free, browser-based tally tool that replaces a physical clicker counter, a tally app, or a scratch-paper hash-mark count. Instead of downloading an app or carrying a handheld clicker, you get a large, tappable counter that works instantly on any phone, tablet, or desktop — with the extra flexibility of custom step sizes, limits, and multiple simultaneous counters.

It's built for the same reasons every tool on The Tool Empire is built: no login wall, no upload, no ads interrupting the count, and no data sent anywhere. Open the page, start clicking, and your number updates instantly.

How to use the Number Counter

  1. Tap the + button to increase the count, or to decrease it. Each click updates the number instantly.
  2. Rename the counter by clicking its label (e.g. "Push-ups", "Yes votes", "Boxes packed").
  3. Change the step size if you want each click to add more than 1 — for example, step 5 for scoring by fives.
  4. Set a minimum or maximum to stop the counter at a limit, like never going below zero.
  5. Use Set count to to jump straight to a specific number instead of clicking repeatedly.
  6. Click + Add counter to open another independent tally, and switch between them using the tabs above the counter.
  7. Everything is saved automatically in your browser — refresh or close the tab and your counters will still be there next time.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Number Counter really free, with no limits?

Yes. Every tool on The Tool Empire is free with no usage cap, no account requirement, and no premium tier. The Number Counter runs entirely in your browser, so there's no server cost that would ever justify a paywall.

Does my count get saved if I close the tab?

Yes. Your counters, labels, and settings are saved automatically to your browser's local storage. Reopen the page later on the same browser and device, and your last counts will still be there. Clearing your browser data will reset them.

Can I run more than one counter at the same time?

Yes. Use the "+ Add counter" tab above the display to create additional independent counters — each with its own label, step size, and limits — and switch between them instantly.

Can I count by something other than 1 at a time?

Yes. Change the "Step size" field to any number, including decimals, and every click on + or − will add or subtract that amount instead of 1.

Can I set a minimum or maximum so the count can't go past a limit?

Yes. Enter values in the "Minimum limit" and "Maximum limit" fields, and the counter will stop at that number instead of going further.

Is any of my data sent to a server?

No. All counting, storage, and calculation happens locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, tracked, or visible to anyone else.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. The layout and buttons are sized for touch and adapt to any screen, so it works the same way on a phone, tablet, or desktop browser.
