How is reading time calculated?

What reading speed should I use?

Reading time estimates silent reading speed, which is faster than speech. Speaking time uses a slower, spoken-word pace (roughly 110–160 words per minute) to estimate how long it takes to read the same text out loud — useful for speeches, scripts, and voiceovers.
Does formatting like headings or bullet points affect the count?
The tool counts all visible words in the pasted text, including headings and list items, since a reader's eyes pass over them too. It does not count HTML tags, markdown symbols, or hidden formatting characters.
Is there a limit to how much text I can paste?
No hard limit — paste a paragraph or a full chapter. Very long text (tens of thousands of words) may take a fraction of a second longer to recalculate, but there's no cap enforced by the tool.
